what's your intention?

"An intention is a request sent to a particular place.  It is a statement that goes out to the universe and comes back", says Dr. Pat Allen, psychotherapist and registered art therapist.  You can only make an intention for yourself.  Setting an intention such as "I want people to get along" or "I don't want people to go hungry" is not a concrete intention.  Saying what you want is good, but doesn't allow you to take responsibility. You can only control your actions, thus only you can make an intention for yourself!

Saying 'I want' means you don't have it; the wish comes from a place of lack.  Instead, use words like 'have' or 'possess'.   Name something you will change in your life? How do you intend to live your life?  What are ways to change your current situation into the life you see for yourself.

Become vocal in your intention.  By vocalizing what you intend for yourself, you give the message life.  You commit to the change.  Writing your intention is good for visualization purposes; by setting a goal and visualizing the anticipated result, you are inviting the circumstances necessary to bring your intended result.  As Dr. Allen says, "Each person gets to do what's needed as guided by intention".

WITH YOUR EYES CLOSEd!

Imagine dancing to the beat of your own drum!  It REALLY doesn't matter whether you can dance or not...simply enjoy the moment.  By allowing yourself to be free from obsessing over whether your movements are in sync or not, you allow your energy to flow, seamlessly.

Here are benefits of dancing with your eyes closed:

  • fear of looking embarrassing vanishes because you can't see who's looking, and if anyone is looking, you can't tell!

  • Movements allow you to get in touch with your core, physically and spiritually

  • Movements are more fluid. By focusing on the music you can anticipate starts and stops.  Different rhythms resonate with different parts of the body.
  • It's one heck of a workout!

Try dancing to music with multiple beats like Mediterranean or salsa.  Move your body like a snake being charmed.  Be your own genie.  Remember to keep your back straight and shoulders aligned to avoid injury. Keeping your tummy tight during movements adds an ab workout.
